the tomb of Nefertari Merenmute

 

Nefertari’s tomb: has a quite complicated plan, after the stairs at the entrance there is a transverse chamber which, on the right, through a small antechamber leads to a second room. From the first room a flight of stairs leads to the chamber of the sarcophagus, aleady violated in ancientness and threatened by dampness that make indespensable continuos works of restoration to maintain intact the structures and the painted relief.
In the first transversal chamber there are scenes of worshipping by the queen, representations of various divinities among whom Iside and Nefti as a hawk, the queen plays senet (the ancient draughts), in the room there is also a kind of counter maybe to keep the funeral trousseau. The architrave of the room that opens to the antechamber of the second side room is decorated with a series of feathers of the truth and of urei. In the third room four pilaster have various divinities worshipped by the queen and the funeral priest with the panther skin. The lid of the sarcophagus of pink granite, a little model of the queen’s tomb and other objects found in the tomb are exposed in the Egyptian Museum in Torin
