The restyling of the sphinx
Various scaffoldings have been assembled in Giza,
by archaeologists and restorers, before the Sphinx, the colossal statue
with the human head and the body of a lion, that guards Cheope’s,
Chefren’s and Micerino’s pyramids. So the restoration of the Egyptian
Sphinx begins, it needs urgent repairs for the damages provoked by the
erosion caused by the desert wind. In particular, the interventions are
directed on the base of the statue: the chest and neck parts present
deep erosions. The Sphinx, encloses in itself an esoteric mystery never
revealed, in Egypt it’s symbol of royalty, in the Arabic epoch it was
feared as a monster and in 1800 it was even attacked with cannon shots
bu the mammalucchi, who destroyed its nose. In spit of all this it has
resisted. As an ancient Arab proverb recites “Man fears time, but time
fears the pyramids”.
