Sobekneferu

Sobekneferu was a “female-horus”, an actual female pharaoh who represented the complete royal title. Her name means “Sobek’s beauty”, referring to the crocodile god, symbol of fertility and at the same time of the power of the divine light. The queen was for sure Amenemhat’s III daughter and Amenemhat’s IV sister (or half-sister or bride). Her reign was rather short, it lasted a little over three years. Of her remain various monuments in the area of the Fayyum, but where her tomb is, is unknown although it’s believed it might have been built in Mazghuna, near the one attributed to Amenemhat IV. Her ascent to the throne wasn’t marked by any conflict inside the reign because Sobekneferu was considered a real pharaoh. The queen-crocodile close the XII dynasty.
