The Serapeum

 

This is a computer reconstruction of the serapeum.
The structure is easily seen.
It’s a great complex of tunnels that were the burials for the Apis bulls. Auguste Mariete discovered the underground complex with the funeral chambers and the gigantic sarcophaguses of the Apis bulls.
The complex was used beginning from the XXVI dynasty to the Greek-Roman epoch.
There are various chambers. Each one had a single large granite sarcophagus, over three meters high.
At halfway of the main tunnel there is, on the right, a smaller corridor that leads to a parallel tunnel that joins the entrance corridor
