Sahura

Sahura, Userkaf’s cousin, followed his same politic of expansion sending expeditions in Byblos and in the inner areas of the near Syria. His ships came back full of every kind of goods and they brought in Egypt even a bear, captured in the Siberian woods. Sahura exploited the mines in Sinai, he activated the diorite quarries in Assuan and reached the mysterious land, of punt, rich of incense, which was indespensable for the religious cult. It was in the so-called “god’s country”, an expression that from the Middle Reign will be used to indicate all the Eastern territories.
Punt must have been between eastern Sudan and northern Eritrea, although its precise place is uncertain. From this land the Egyptians imported precious esoric goods such as myrrh, gold, ivory and evony. Sahura ordered to build his own funeral complex in Abu Sir.
