Pepy II

Pepy II succeeded his half-brother Merenra I, at only ten years old. Even in his case, as in Pepy’s I one, probably it was the queen who guided once more the Country, while her son grew up. Pepy’s II reign was very long, according to some even up to one-hundred years. Anyway the period was not under seventy years, from 2270 to 2200 BC. Pepy II kept commercial relations with Nubia and he went ahead up to Byblos and in the oasis. Pepy’s II longevity was good for the nomarchi who took advantage of it to acquire a greater autonomy inside their provinces, as the pharaoh was too old, and it’s supposed also too tired, to personally follow the problems of Egypt.
