Neferhotep I

| 1740-1730 BC XIII Dynasty Neferhotep I (Khasekhemra’s second name) is the twenty-first king of the XIII dynasty. Of a plebian origin (his grandfather was only a military) he was able to remain on the throne for eleven years and to affirm with tenacity the legitimacy of his lineage, so even two of his brothers Ra-Sihathor and Sebekhotep IV, could also receive a crown. He particularly cared for Abydos, the city sacred to Osiride, restoring the sanctuary and reorganizing the ceremonies according to the tradition in the sacred archives. In Byblos, the native dynasty by then Egyptian, still swore him faithfulness. His reputation later made him a rather significant symbol, to the point that the Hyksos mutilated his images on the sacred objects found during their conquer. |
