EGYPTIAN MUSEUM IN CAIRO

The Egyptian Museum in Cairo was built in 1857 by the French archaeologist Auguste Manette and it has the largest collection of Egyptian finds, besides valuable works of the following epoch. For the great number of the unique pieces it’s suggested to by one of the pamphlets for sale or to follow an authorized guide who accompanies the visitors in the rooms, giving quite thorough explanations in English, French and German. The finds have been organized in chronological order. On the first floor there are pieces of monuments and colossal statues that go back to the Ancient Reign. The upper floor is mostly occupied by “Tutankhamon’s Treasure” which includes the very famous “gold mask” of the young pharaoh, but also a sarcophagus of solid gold and many jewels attract a great interest.
