Min

God of Koptos and of Panopolis, he was the protector of the paths of the oriental desert, he was represented by the features of a man with his head decorated with a flat calotte and full of tall feathers, the same as Amon’s one.
In these representations Min appeared with only one arm, lifted, on which there was a scourge. Generating divinity, he was represented with itifalliche characteristics, for this he was confused by the Greeks with Pan.
A very ancient divinity, it seems he was the official god of the pre-dynastic period.
The great celebration that took place in the first month of summer, was celebrated from the tinita epoch to the roman period.
It was the opening celebration of the harvest season and was associated to the royal cult almost certainly at the beginning of the New Reign. We have representations from the Ramesseo and from the temple in Medinet Habu.
The pharaoh was carried on a litter, surrounded by a celebrating court and taken to the god’s temple to be put in front of him; at the same time, Min was lifted and went out of the sanctuary to meet the pharaoh. A white bull was taken to the repositorio , then following a precise ritual, the pharaoh cut a spike and went around the god’s figure. At this point four birds were freed so they could go and announce to the four corners of the horizon that the monarchy was renewed. The ceremonies were accompanied by songs and dances.
