The functionary Ti

The functionary TiTi was a functionary, who married princess Neferhetepes and lived both under Nerirkara-Kakai’s reign and in Shepseskara’s and Neferefra’s one.

Ti had been nominated "Leader of the hairdressers in the royal house”, a very important title because he who had it, had to be completely trusted since, having to cut beard and hair, he got near the sovereign’s throat with sharp tools.
Moreover he was also “the king’s only friend” to underline his role inside the court.
Ti supervisied the combers that cared for the hair, the wigs and the beards of the members in the royal family.
The hair-care was greatly considered and men and women in the highest classes usually wore wigs.
In the Ancient Reign hair was usually short and combed in a simple way, while in the Middle Reign they will be longer and often tidied in elaborated hairstyles.
Ti also had other duties: administrator of the funeral properties of the sovereigns for whom he worked, and supervisor of the construction work for the temples, both funeral and solar.
His mastaba is a clear example of the riches he piled up during his career.
His tomb in Sakkara is rich of interesting relief. At the entrance there are many relief on the walls that indicated the rich functionary’s thirty-six land properties, in the area of the delta.
The walls evoked moments of rural life, they show peasants working in the harvest and in the breeding of livestock, or men who are fishing. In the decorations ti is portrayed with his family and domestic animals, while he supervises the rural work, but even when he’s performing his sacerdotal functions, or on a boat with his wife.
